How To Auto-Moderate Reviews?

A guide on how to auto-publish or automatically block specific reviews

Updated over a week ago

We offer auto-moderate options that you can use to speed up and simplify the moderation of your reviews. Auto-moderation allows you to automatically reject or publish reviews based on your criteria without having to moderate each review separately.

Navigation

STEP 1: Go to 'Ratings & Reviews'.

STEP 2: Click 'Reviews' under Moderate.

STEP 3: Select 'Auto-Moderate' in the top navigation bar.

Auto-moderate options

You have the following options to configure auto-moderation in your reviews.

Censor profanity

Profanity words will be censored with *** in all reviews. This applies to words that are in a default profanity list. When a review with profanity words is submitted, the profanity term will be identified and marked with ***.

Profanity Alert: If a review contains Profanity, you will see a profanity Alert on the Review Card.

This setting alone does not affect the publishing of the review. You will find reviews with the profanity filter under the list of 'Pending' reviews and you can decide whether to publish or reject them.

Toggle on/off to enable/disable the censoring.

Auto-publish

Our recommendation is that you should publish all reviews, whether they are positive or negative unless they contain offensive content or are not related to your brand or products. By doing so, you can offer your customers an authentic and comprehensive perspective on the opinions and experiences of other customers with your products.

Enable auto-publish

Enabling auto-publish means that reviews that are collected by Flowbox will be automatically published unless you enable Block rules. It allows you to minimize the time spent manually publishing reviews and gives you the ability to determine what content you want to automatically publish. When this option is enabled, you don't have to moderate all reviews, instead, they will automatically go to the list of 'Published' reviews and appear in your Review Widgets.

Toggle on/off to enable/disable auto-publish.

If you disable auto-publish here, all other auto-publish and block rules options will be disabled too.

Reviews with the 'Block auto-publishing reviews with a rating below' auto-publish block will be automatically published after 14 days according to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guideline. If you do not wish to have this behavior, opt out by switching on the 'Opt out of auto-publishing blocked reviews' setting below.

'Opt out of auto-publishing blocked reviews'

Override that reviews with the star-rating auto-publish block ('Block auto-publishing reviews with a rating below') are automatically published after 14 days.

Toggle on to override that reviews with the star-rating auto-publish block are automatically published. In this case, auto-blocked reviews will not be published after 14 days.

Toggle off to keep the original behavior described above. In this case, star-rating auto-blocked reviews will be published after 14 days.

Block rules

When the 'Enable auto-publish' option is enabled and you also enable any of the Block rules below, the reviews that fall under your blocking criteria will not be automatically published. They will remain 'Pending' and you can moderate whether to publish or reject them.

'Block auto-publishing reviews with a rating below'

It blocks the auto-publishing of reviews with a rating lower than the selected number.

Toggle on to enable this auto-publish block. Select a star rating in the drop-down list to block publishing reviews with a rating lower than this number.

'Block auto-publishing reviews with profanity'

Blocks reviews containing profanity from being published automatically.

Note that the difference between this setting and the 'Censor profanity filter' setting is that when the 'Censor profanity ' setting is enabled, it allows the review containing profanity to be displayed in your widget, but profanity words will be censored with ***.

When the 'Block auto-publishing reviews with profanity' setting is enabled, it prevents the review containing profanity from being auto-published at all. It will be held for moderation and appear in the list of 'Pending' reviews where you have the option to either publish or reject it.

Toggle on to use the auto-publish block on reviews containing profanity.

'Block auto-publishing reviews from an unverified user'

Blocks reviews from being auto-published where the user has not been verified. Check our guide to learn more about how to Send user verification emails to verify your reviews.

Toggle on to block reviews from unverified users.
